ECW is a not
for profit
environmental resource centre working with groups and
organizations as a catalyst in assisting to improve
community well-being without degrading environmental health, by
guiding the adoption of integrative frameworks that bring
together social, economic, and environmental concerns.
We assist industry and government in
understanding how good environmental conditions will support
healthy communities and quality of life in an equitable way for
all citizens of a region. ECW assists communities in a bottom-up
approach to build an environment that provides good jobs and
living spaces for all.

ECW is contacted
frequently to assist individuals in tackling environmental
issues ranging from reporting algal blooms on our coasts, rivers
and streams, to illegal dumpsites, or who to contact when they
find a dead bird, etc. In the past we have helped lake
associations with concerns through the Community Lake Education
program, conducted the Beach Sweep and Adopt-A-Shoreline
programs, restored a salt marsh in Little Lepreau, facilitated
Gulf of Maine Youth Environment Camps, educated students about
energy efficiency, and coordinated the Oiled Wildlife
Rehabilitation program.

ECW, in partnership with the Department of
Environment, is conducting a riparian land use survey of Lake
Utopia to help identify the possible causes for the increase
instances of algae blooms in the lake. ECW will also be
conducting an awareness campaign with landowners on riparian
health to aid Lake Utopia landowners in working together in
maintaining the health of the lake. All data and final
results of the study will be presented at an open house after
project completion. We ask for landowners cooperation and
support of this project, by filling out the survey to the best
of their knowledge.
While not required to provide a name, those interested in
joining a Lake Utopia Landowners Association are encouraged to
do so. When the survey is complete, it may be returned to
ECW at the contact information included. Please return all
surveys before September 4th.
