Cooperative Bacterial Monitoring Program (CBMP)

The Bacterial Monitoring Program employs the services of volunteers and government scientists to measure and track bacteria levels. This information helps all stakeholders to understand and implement strategies to protect the sensitive harvesting areas.

ECW uses a multi-faceted approach to reclaiming beaches for soft-shell clam harvesting, including biological assessments, extensive public education and, most importantly, open and clear communications between all stakeholder groups within the New Brunswick clam industry. ECW established a safe environment, free from judgement and blame, that continues to allow soft-shell harvesters, processors, government at all levels, as well as members of the public and local business community to work together to find real, sustainable solutions to this environmental, social and economic issue.
